Course Description
The degree offers an opportunity to explore two disciplines, which have a clear affinity with one another. Psychology comprises two thirds of the degree and counselling a third.Psychology is a broad discipline, which attempts to understand a wide range of human action, behaviour and experience. Topics range from neurological explanations of epilepsy and dyslexia, to accounts of why prejudice exists in our society. Students are encouraged to consider how to apply psychological theories to real-world issues, and to evaluate the implications. The pathway provides a sound basis for professional training in Psychology (the course is acredited by the British Psychological Society) as well as enabling you to develop interests in related areas.The Counselling part of the course develops your skills and knowledge of counselling. You will work collaboratively, developing therapeutic relationships that promote health and well-being. Modules will enable you to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in counsellin, cover the impact of culture and environment and the use of cognitive, behavioural and psychodynamic approaches.
