For continuing students, printmaking may be used in a fine art or design context to produce one off art works or to disseminate information through posters or books. It may be used to print designs on fabrics for clothing or upholstery, or even to produce wall paper! Some printmakers take part in the International Contemporary Artists' Book Fair, prepare work for personal exhibitions, and complete the year by staging an exhibition at Leeds College of Art and producing an edition box set of prints. This is a mixed level class in which independent learners of differing levels work alongside one another. To join a mixed level class you should first have completed a beginners’ course as a much higher level of competence and independence is expected. Your tutor will tell you when you are ready to move out of the beginners’ class. There are beginners’ courses on Tuesday evenings and on some Saturdays and at Easter. There is also a woodcut printing class on some Saturdays. A ll learners will work on design projects under the guidance of the Tutor but more advanced and independent learners are also welcome to join the group to develop their skills working on individual projects and seeking guidance from the Tutor as needed. Teaching is informal and encouraging.
