Course Description This BYTSYZ online course on the Principles of First Aid will enable students to understand the key issues that can arise during emergency situations. First aid is the first help or care that a suddenly sick or injured person receives. It is given as soon as possible after an accident or an illness. This immediate help prior to the arrival of the emergency services can mean the difference between life and death, or at the very least can affect recovery. This course will look at the principles that should be adopted in order to ensure the safe administration of first aid. The course will focus on the three key areas of: 1. General Principals of First Aid - Speed of action - Summoning and directing help - Duty of care 2. Accidents and Injuries - Burns and scalds - Eye injuries - Soft tissue injuries - Common tissue injuries 3. Emergency Situations - Bleeding - Electric shock - Head injuries - Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation - Limitations of practice. Completing this course will not make you competent to carry out first aid. The course will provide you with the theory and information to inform your practice. Before you undertake any form of first aid it is important you receive practical training and assessment in the techniques required.
