This course is offered on a non-modular basis; in addition to following the standard primary programme, student teachers also undertake an additional module to develop their knowledge and understanding in the pedagogy of teaching and learning in primary languages, which is the latest subject to be added to the primary curriculum; students are also required to undertake a 4-week placement in a primary school in France or Spain, where there is a requirement to teach in the target language across the curriculum, with support from the local teachers and training institution; this experience provides first-hand knowledge of the host education system, develops linguistic ability (especially with regards to the communication used at primary level), extends student teachers� understanding of resources and teaching strategies, and supports their on-going development of generic teaching skills.
