The programme meets the learning needs of Practice Nurses; it provides the knowledge and skills needed to deliver a diverse range of services within general practice; the programme will prepare students to meet the many challenging demands of working within general practice, particularly in relation to the essential and additional services of the new General Medical Services contract.
Core modules: there are two core modules to be taken at Level 3: research module 1; philosophy and politics of primary healthcare Route-specific modules: there are two route-specific modules to be taken at Level 3: practice nurse distance learning; practice portfolio (double module). Optional modules: chronic heart disease management in primary care; asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); biological foundation in clinical practice and related pharmacology �extended; clinical assessment in primary care; communications and role development; contemporary cultural issues in ear, nose and throat practice; counselling skills for interprofessional practice; developing practice in contraception and reproductive sexual health; independent and supplementary non medical nurse prescribing; diabetes care.
