Course Qualification: MRes in Plant Health
Course Venue: University Of Plymouth , Devon, PL4 8AA
Awarding body: University of Plymouth
Course Description
Prevention of losses to pests, weeds and diseases continues to be important to economically sustainable crop production, but there is also a widely acknowledged need to protect the environment from adverse effects of pesticides. Current plant health research addresses these two issues through the sensitive, local deployment of pesticides developed for an international market, and the creation of sustainable alternatives using biological, environmental and genetic methods to minimise pesticide use. Experience of different research cultures is also important to developing your career. A particular feature of this programme is the opportunity to conduct your research project within a plant health group in a leading research institution. The core modules in period one will be delivered at the university. These will provide you with the generic skills to be a successful researcher and the essential background to understand the issues affecting the management of plant health. In periods two and three you will take one module on project planning, but the majority of your time is spent on your research project and dissertation.
