Course Description
The study of the environment and environmental pollution has shown a constant and remarkable growth in recent times. Environmental issues represent a growing public concern and is a major topic for scientific research. Environmental pollution, a problem that a few decades ago affected only the most industrialized areas in the world, has expanded to affect virtually all countries. Another field, which has shown a similar growth beyond any previous expectation, is the field of computers, which nowadays provides a unique tool for simulating environmental problems. Computers have become a numerical laboratory in which environmental phenomena are reproduced, examined and controlled through numerical experiments. Environmental Modelling uses computers for this purpose and refers to the ability to solve equations that describe the dynamics of environmental phenomena of computers. The programme introduces the students to the field of Environmental Modelling and gives them a solid grounding for a successful professional career. It is tailored to suit the particular needs of the student and to provide adequate and sufficient mathematical, theoretical and modelling expertise. Students with either an interest in industry or research would be able to benefit from this programme, follow the advances in their field of interest and actively contribute to that aim.
