This course provides the qualification needed to teach in the area of learning and skills, also known as post-compulsory education; this includes further education colleges, higher education institutions, adult and community learning providers, private training companies, and public services; students can take a specialist route to gain the standards needed to teach either literacy or numeracy or English to speakers of other languages (ESOL); the course: improves knowledge and understanding of educational ideas and theories; develops professional practice; introduces the latest developments in the learning and skills area; students apply the course theory through teaching practice; for part-time students this must consist of at least 100 hours teaching for each year; full-time students complete 150 hours of teaching on their placement.
