The course provides students with essential skills and advanced knowledge and understanding to enable them to proceed to doctoral research; training provided is also valuable for many non-academic careers.
Compulsory modules (120 credits) cover: information skills; thinking about research; qualitative methodology in the arts, humanities and social sciences; introduction to quantitative methods; theories and approaches in the study of politics: power and democracy; concepts and methods in the study of politics; the nature of inquiry and explanation; doing political research; research project culminating in 12,000 word dissertation (60 credits).
