Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive insight into the theory and practice of plant breeding for the 21st century by focusing on current breeding techniques and the application of new methods emerging from molecular biology. It is designed for students who wish to take up plant breeding as a career and for those already working in the field who wish to extend their knowledge of current methods. The course is run jointly by staff at the School of Biological Sciences at UEA and the John Innes Centre (JIC) which also includes the Sainsbury Laboratory. The John Innes Centre is one of the world's leading research institutes in plant genetics and crop improvement. The teaching staff include members of the School of Biological Sciences together with scientists from the John Innes Centre and a number of leading plant breeding and plant biotechnology companies within the UK.

2008/09 fees: taught courses - £3300 full-time and £1650 part-time.

Assessment method
Dissertation examination and coursework.
Entry Requirements
Good degree in biological sciences or plant biology. Other applicants with relevant experience also considered. Those for whom English is not a first language, should preferably have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL score 600(paper-based)/ 250 (CBT)/ 100 (IBT).
