Access Diplomas are a nationally recognised qualification quality assured by Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) designed for the more mature learner who is looking to gain entry to Higher Education, but have not yet achieved the necessary entrance qualifications to gain a place at university.
To achieve a full Access Diploma you will need to have been awarded 60 credits, from which not more than 15 can be at level 2 (GCSE level standard) and at least 45 must be studied at level 3 (A level standard). All level 3 units are graded at Pass Merit and Distinction.
To start the Access Diploma in Physiotherapy you need to have the drive and determination to be able to self-study at 'A' level standard, with of course help from your personal tutor and other learners on the DLC student forum/Facebook groups.
The course is comprised of 6 level 2 credits in English, 6 in Mathematics and 3 in IT, though there are extra units in English Maths and Science if you are required to take them by your chosen university as part of their entry requirements. These extra level 2 units are taken as a separate course on top of your Diploma. The rest of the course is at level 3.
To study the Physiotherapy pathway of the Diploma there are also compulsory credits at level 3 these are: Research and Statistics (6 credits), Communications (6 credits) and Human Biological Science (15 credits). You can then choose from a wide list of modules in Psychology, Health Studies, further Human Biology and Physics to make up the rest of your level 3 credits.
These are assessed by your tutors internally in the form of essays, short answer questions, power point presentations, annotated diagrams and Skype examinations. Moderation by the awarding body (OCNNWR trading as Open Awards) takes place twice a year in November and June whilst certification is in August and January. Please see: for more information
