Course Description
The programme includes: astrophysics and space research which includes extragalactic and galactic astrophysics, solar physics; radiation biophysics which includes investigation of the mechanisms of the radiation response of cells and tissues at low doses; applications of Monte Carlo modelling of radiation transport for radiotherapy treatment planning and dosimetry; condensed matter physics which includes high temperature superconductivity, strongly correlated electron metals and novel superconductors; magnetic materials and measurements; nanophysics which includes nanostructured surfaces, manipulation of individual molecules with the scanning tunnelling microscope; nuclear physics; particle physics; theoretical physics; solar and stellar physics.
Course Fees
Fees for 2008/09: taught full-time: £4200; part-time: £2100; research full-time £3240-£3350; part-time: from £1620. Students should contact the Financial Support Office for further details, regarding fees or bursaries.

Entry Requirements
Applicants for research degrees should normally have a first-class or upper second-class Honours degree. English Language requirements: 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in any band for IELTS and TOEFL 600/250 plus TWE 4.0.
