The physical geography course studies the processes structuring the natural world and the environmental management issues that arise as a consequence of such processes; students gain an understanding of the global environment and how problems relating to it impinge on all our lives; mathematics gives students a broad and integrated introduction to the basic mathematics that should be known by a mathematics graduate; a thorough knowledge of mathematics is essential for a complete understanding of the sciences, and has become increasingly important with the development of new areas of application in the physical and biological sciences, engineering and social studies.
