There are 4 major elements in all years of the course; professional education studies: gives students the general professional training to be a class teacher in a primary school; school experience: students work in schools in all years for block periods of between 5 &10 weeks and on occasional days throughout the course; special subject: human movement studies are studied in depth; includes: the development of physical education and sport; the contemporary sporting agenda; the way in which children acquire and learn motor skills; the relationship between physical growth, maturity and motor development; the way in which physical education and sport impacts on healthy lifestyles; the impact on the child when motor skill learning breaks down; tensions between the developing sporting culture and educational values; issues relating to access, opportunity and ownership in sport and physical education; group project; applied studies: students learn how to teach that subject as a specialism; successful completion of this course leads to a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) after completion of skills tests.
