This programme is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and experience to become a successful image maker and enable their successful progression to the career of their choice. They will engage with the experienced lecturers who come from a wide range of disciplines to increase their technical ability, expand their understanding of the photographic world (commercial, cultural and critical) and most importantly, enable them to develop their ideas into fluent images. In year 1: it will provide a broad, practical and theoretical grounding in photography. This will equip them with relevant knowledge of practical skills in contemporary media production technologies as well as creative skills that will assist in their development as a practitioner. A number of modules will help them to develop an awareness of photography and its uses in the context of contemporary society as they acquire skills in communication, presentation, team work, problem-solving, leadership and project management. Areas of study: photographic techniques, materials and processes, genres of photography, cultural studies, visual language. In year 2: it will continue to develop the skills and understanding obtained in year 1 and additionally will explore career development opportunities in photography and the creative industries. Their skills will be expanded in a variety of contexts, for differing media and audiences in all genres of photographic practice (e.g. portraiture, photojournalism and reportage, fashion editorial and advertising and landscape photography).
