About this course

Photography Course for Intermediates is a 2 day course with 30% theory and 70% practice, exercises, practical examples, impromptu demonstrations, outdoor shooting and the opportunity to discuss and ask questions after each topic. (pick and mix topics depending on your needs).

Do you have a basic understanding of camera commands and have taken pictures for a while but no signs of improvement? Did you buy a more advanced (expensive) camera but your pictures did not improve? Come and join us and get a good understanding of the photography principles and how you can make the most of your camera capabilities.

At this level we go in depth and digging more the principles of photography. You will learn to control your images, "make" rather than "take - record" an image by learning how to control your exposures, the composition elements and how to design your pictures.

Advanced Focusing techniques

Light Meter - metering modes

White Balance - understanding white balance and colour temperature

Exposure Compensation Exposure Bracketing

Understanding Histograms Light – behavior, the colour of light (natural & artificial, direction, form and quality)

Flash - how to use your flashgun effectively - settings, accessories

Filters Long & Exposures

Advanced composition (the elements)

By the end of this course you should be able to: know and make use of all advanced camera commands and settings (especially in manual mode) make decisions on lenses use and focal lengths depending on the subject use the flash creatively in different situations make use of the natural light effectively set up the white balance effectively avoiding colour cast have a good understanding of filters and their use start using your camera for long exposures and adding beautiful effects to your photographs beging to make complex decisions about your compositions

If you haven't got a camera available yet but still want to attend the course you can borrow one of our spare semi-professional DSLRs + lenses + flashgun + tripod for the duration of the course. If you are planning to buy a new camera, I can offer advice on what camera and lenses to buy according to your budget.

Following the course we are happy to help and assist with any further questions you may have (unlimited follow-up email and telephone advice). Your satisfaction is important to us and we are very interested to follow your photographic evolution after the course.

You can get in contact with us with any questions you may have and submit your photographs for feedback and discuss your work with us and others online. You can also discuss your future training needs with Ion. He can do periodic assessments on your work and decide on tailored topics based on your evolution / needs / photography style.
