Course Description
This course explores the practical and creative interplay between photographic practice and theory in the field of visual representations of urban space. It aims to encourage an innovative approach to architectural and urban photography by adopting a critical approach to the way they perceive, relate and respond to the physical realm of architecture. The course is taught through a series of discussion-based seminars and practical photographic classes. During the course participants will produce a professional artistic portfolio based on 35mm transparency slides or prints. Two practical issues are central to the workshops. One is testing a set of inventive customised methods to adapt their own 35mm camera, these methods challenge concepts and practices of representing space. The second is to develop individual photographic projects of a designated public cultural building.
