Offered jointly with our Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, our course brings together psychoanalytic and philosophical perspectives, and uses these to illuminate cultural, moral and existential questions; our students learn how the thinking of Freud and later psychoanalysts has interacted with European philosophy in the 20th Century; conversely, they also cover how psychoanalysts explored philosophical issues in deepening their theory and practice; as well as developing key employability skills like independent thought and critical reflection, our graduates have the knowledge, understanding and skills to proceed to research in continental European philosophy, psychoanalytic studies, or an area of intersection between the 2.
