Course Description
The Food & Environment Protection Act requires that persons born after the 31 December 1964 obtain a certificate to prove that they are competent to apply pesticides. Any person of any age who applies pesticides on contract work is also required to have a certificate. The course will equip candidates with the knowledge and skills to: Identify those aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticides, in particular their responsibilities under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986; Use the information on container labels and elsewhere to determine the approved uses, potential hazards to human safety, other crops or the environment of a particular product and the precautions necessary to use it safely; Identify the necessary protective clothing for use with a particular product; Carry out correct procedures for handling, mixing and storing pesticides and the disposal of empty containers and surplus pesticide. The module covers the following areas: Environment, Clothing, Disposal, Legislation, Records, Storage, Interpretation. Accommodation is not available on campus but a list of local hotels can be provided on request. Training can also be provided on your own premises. This course has been awarded 12 NRoSO CPD points. This one day course is followed by the NPTC assessment. Details of the date and time of assessment will be given on the day of the course.
