This programme helps to develop you as a thinking practitioner, whether that practice is of your own performance, creative expression, or work within a community setting. It will provide a strong basis for further vocational training or study. As well as developing skills and knowledge associated with the various disciplines of performance, particular emphasis is placed on your ability to work collaboratively, to be able to articulate your ideas, and to organise yourself and your resources effectively. Public performance is a key part of the student experience.
The course will give you a grounding in the background to theatre and performance, including the essential elements of their history. Practical work enables you to make constant use of your new theoretical knowledge. You will have the opportunity to become fully involved in the process of performance from directing and writing to critical evaluation. Elements of this course aim to prepare you for film, television and radio work, as well as live theatre.
The College has two fully equipped theatres; The ACT (Arthur Cotterell Theatre) and Studio 101, together with a TV studio and access to costume and make-up facilities. You will also benefit from being involved with the films and videos made by our students following the Media course.
