Department of Earth Sciences

About this course

This course covers the evolution of life through the combined study of geology and biology; a 3rd of year 1 is spent studying geology, and 2 3rds spent studying biology; after year 1 students take some core units in both disciplines which are particularly relevant to their area of study, but they have a much wider choice of options, geological and biological, to choose from; there is a wide range of biological and palaeontological units to study, from how the biosphere evolved to insect biology, micropalaeontology and on the large scale, biomechanics and vertebrate evolution; the final year, taught entirely in the Department of Earth Sciences, involves a mandatory major research project.
