Course Description
PLaCe originated in 1998 as a discourse centre that brought together a diverse group of staff and higher degree students with research into contextual fine art practice as their common denominator. Through joint and individual projects, practice-based colloquia and symposia, members of the centre have examined the role and value of public, performative and site specific art, and have explored the ways in which memory and national identity are formed and critiqued through a wide range of visual media, exhibitions, commissions and published works. PLaCe acts as a forum for discourse, disagreement and dissemination for groups of researchers, practitioners and research students: SITUATIONS; LAND2; Scenery; Collaborative Arts.
