Oxford University, Department For Continuing Education Overview

Oxford University, Department For Continuing Education Overview Image
Oxford was one of the pioneers of the University Extension movement in the United Kingdom, and we still retain the original mission of making the scholarship of the University accessible to wider audiences.

In recent years Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education has grown very considerably, and now every year more than 15,000 people join one or more of our courses. Our students may be members of the public who wish to study a subject out of general interest or for personal satisfaction, members of professional groups or business organisations who wish to update their professional knowledge and skills, or participants in our increasingly large number of courses for international groups.

What's on offer
The Department for Continuing Education offers courses covering a wide range of subjects, and many of them lead to university qualifications. Provision is made for individuals, organisations, and professional groups. Courses are offered on a part-time basis, online, or in the form of short courses (one day to several weeks and residential summer schools).

Location
The Department for Continuing Education is based at a number of sites within and near central Oxford. The Department's main location is in Wellington Square, which is within easy walking distance of city centre and also the rail and coach stations.
