The programme complies with the UK standards for specialist training in orthodontics by the SAC of the Royal Colleges; on successful completion of training students have achieved the academic standards and clinical experience required for the MOrth examinations of the UK Royal Colleges; provides the theoretical background and knowledge required for orthodontic practice and the compulsory clinical programme provides the clinical experience in diagnosis, patient treatment and management; clinical component of training programme is located in the Newcastle Dental Hospital or Regional Hospitals; treatment of patients is supervised by the consultant orthodontists in those hospitals; all students provided with one-to-one nurse support; plus all necessary instruments, materials and access to orthodontic laboratories; annual travel grant provided to enable students to participate in the Northern Universities Consortium for orthodontic teaching.
