Course Description
Grow your Crops in Harmony with Nature - Who is the course for? People who plan to grow garden crops in harmony with nature in 2008 Aims of the Course To develop a plan for students to proceed to grow their own garden crops such as vegetables, salads and herbs in 2008. Objectives of the Course? - Be aware of the cultural techniques for growing garden crops in harmony with nature. - Understand the considerations for a plot for cultivation. - Choose crops- Plan a plot considering methods such as rotation, permaculture, raised beds etc. - Know plot management and preparation considerations. - Prepare a calendar of activities for the year. Activities & Tasks - Different approaches - organic, wildlife, permaculture, sustainable gardening, raised beds, cultural and chemical techniques. - Planning a plot: aims, measuring, space, soil analysis, aspect and weather. - Preparing a plot and improving the soil. - Plan for the year - a calendar - Selecting, growing and tending crops from the main crop families: onion family, brassicas, legumes, root vegetables, salads, squash family, herbs and companion planting.

Basic literacy and numeracy

Equipment and Materials
Pencil, pen and paper. Weather permitting we will assess the plot on the ACE site so outdoor shoes and warm outdoor clothing would be useful.
