One day introduction to orchard management training. Info and bookings www.skillsforsustainableliving.co.uk Join Adele from the South Lakes Orchard Group to learn about managing an orchard productively. Receive instruction on growing apples, including grafting and budding. Ask questions about pest and disease management, rootstocks, pruning and harvesting. Learn about the process of creating a clean and palatable juice from apples, pears and apple/damsons. Recieve advice on options for Juicing equipment and how to use it. Have a go using a vigo hand press on the day! Also guidance on the requirements of statutory bodies. Production of a HASOP report and flo chart. The workshop will include a tour of the young orchard at Sunny Orchard farm. The certified organic apples are just beginning to produce a marketable crop and the smallholder made a batch of cider from windfalls/bruised apples last year. Come along with questions as case studies will be discussed throughout the day.
