This applied postgraduate programme develops students� skills in intervention and audit strategies; students carry out an intervention in an applied setting to either deal with populations or individuals particularly affected by levels of overweight; through this experience, students acquire a good understanding of the factors playing a role in the development of obesity and strategies to tackle it; while study of the background covers the entire range of factors, interventions focus on social and psychological interventions; this programme is suitable for healthcare professionals such as practice nurses, teachers, sports coaches, and others interested in tackling obesity.
Basic metabolic principles plus consequences of obesity; obesity as a cultural and lifestyle issue (core issues will probably be diet and physical activity); interventions: psychological, social, environmental or organisational focusing on diet and physical activity; communication, coaching and ethics in dealing with chronic conditions
