This course prepares a student for registration as a nurse with the NMC; the course consists of 2 stages: an 18-month common foundation programme which all students undertake, followed by an 18-month branch programme of students' choice in either child care, adult care, mental health or learning disabilities nursing; the core of this route is the theory and practice of nursing with additional input from the biological and psychological sciences.
Subjects studied include: Theoretical and clinical foundations of nursing; professional studies in nursing; interpersonal communication in nursing; nursing research and informatics; nursing and life sciences; nursing and behavioural sciences; application of research to practice; management and organisation of care.
