The course offers a wide variety of perspectives on health, ill health and nursing practice in a range of settings, the course aims to develop nurses with the knowledge, skills and the interpersonal, managerial and caring abilities to enable them to provide effective practice; the common foundation programme’s major theme is health and the modules offered reflect this; they include concepts and theories of nursing, health studies, interpersonal skills, physiology, psychology and sociology; half of the programme is spent within the school and half in practice and/or clinical placements; practice-related placements encompass both community and hospital environments.
