All years: 50 per cent theory, 50 per cent practical nursing experienceStudents become registered nurses on completion of the programme.Programme leads to professional registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council; comprises 50% theory and 50% practical nursing experience; integration of the theoretical and practical aspects of nursing is a fundamental principle throughout and emphasis is placed upon acquiring in-depth knowledge and skills for managing care, research and evidence-based practice.Clinical visits start early in the course with full placements in a range of care settings commencing at the start of the 2nd semester. The theoretical aspect of the course begins with a common foundation programme (CFP) undertaken by all students regardless of chosen branch followed by a branch specific programme (adult, child, mental health or learning disability nursing).Throughout the programme students study alongside those from the other health and social care professions.
