Course Description
A one or two year enhanced MSc depending on whether a placement is taken. The course takes graduates from Computing related disciplines who have some background in computer networks into postgraduate studies. The aim of the course is to deepen and enhance the students expertise in computer networks, and in particular enable them to study modules that will take them to CISCO certified CCNP standard and introduce them to CISCO certified CCIE level material. The emphasis of the course is on the development of advanced professional skills, covering both the underlying theory and concepts, as well as tools, management and design of networks and practical applications. There is also an opportunity to take some modules of a more general interest within computing.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements are a good honours degree in a computing discipline. It would be advantageous to have studied computer networking to a level equivalent to CCNA standard. However, if you have not done so you can still do the award, but you will be required to undertake a preliminary module which covers many of the skills that we require from a CCNA level of entry. The course is demanding and requires twelve months study at the University. An optional placement in industry may be taken, and this lasts between six and twelve months. If you decide to do the placement this is usually arranged through the Placement Office who will help you find employment, which is usually paid. At the end of the first semester you are eligible for the Postgraduate Certificate (PGC), at the end of the second, the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and at the end of the dissertation, the MSc.
