This course leads to an award which is recognised throughout the country as the minimum requirement for pool lifeguards. The course covers accident prevention, emergency action, life support, first aid procedures and rescue methods. There will be theory and pool work on both morning and afternoon sessions, covering the following: Knowledge and understanding of pool safety and supervision Life Support and First Aid Pool rescue skills and incident management Application of knowledge and skills to the working environment Please note there are two pool sessions most days. You may wish to bring extra swimwear. Please go to the main reception when you first arrive. It is essential that students attend all days.
Students must be 16 years of age. Students with physical or learning difficulties may not be able to reach the required standard to gain this qualification and will be advised on an individual basis. Please inform Learning4Life at the time of booking if you have any special needs or requirements Students unable to meet the water test standards should not enrol on this course. The standards are: - swim a minimum distance of 100 metres with a minimum speed of 50 metres in 60 seconds - dive to 1.8 metres - perform sidestroke adequately These standards will be checked through a pool test undertaken during the first morning under the supervision of the course tutor and/or RLSS internal verifier. Any student not reaching the required standard will be unable to continue the course. The achievement of the standard in the water test does not guarantee the student will successfully achieve the qualification. Please note that goggles or glasses (prescription or otherwise) cannot be worn for the final water assessment. Our pool is 17 metres in length
