This course is for those with an interest in and commitment to engineering. It is an ideal taster for engineering and is suitable for people of all ages who are generally interested in engineering as well as those thinking about an Apprenticeship. It will introduce you to general workshop practices and skills, preparing you for either a craft position or further study for a technician post. Subjects covered include: • Machine shop practices: turning, milling, grinding • Welding and fabrication • Bench work and fitting • Maintenance practices • Introduction to electrical engineering • Information Technology. You will also study for qualifications in Functional Skills.
Four GCSEs at Grade D or above including GCSE Mathematics at Grade C or above and demonstrable practical ability. (Entry requirements may be waived for mature students over the age of 19, subject to initial assessment/interview).
