Year 1: Students develop skills in all aspects of management including presentation and time management; knowledge of facts, terms and principles relating to arts management are accumulated and students investigate issues of artistic ownership through study of contracts and copyright; students explore ways to fund their own ventures while learning about grant and lottery funding. Year 2: Students learn about how music and theatre is produced and can specialise in working on production for one of those art forms, then extend their strategic management knowledge, while acquiring new skills in project planning and gaining an understanding of local and international cultural policies; students develop specialist skills in the management of venues, artists, music, theatre and dance while pursuing practical projects both within and outside the Institute. Year 3: A real-world 3-month work placement offers practical experience in the chosen specialist area, building towards employment; students also develop their areas of interest, addressing a contemporary issue and contributing to an industry conference in arts management, all of which ties in with the management research paper where students can undertake in-depth research into a specific area of arts from their own perspective.
