Students study the electronic principles underlying hardware devices, and the programming techniques for software development; students also have the opportunity to explore their own creative work through song writing and other compositional tasks.
Year 1: Microphones and placement; MIDI and audio protocols; sampling; sequencing; mixing; processing and sound transmissions and capture. Year 2: Expand technical knowledge to include aspects such as advanced hard-disk recording, non-linear sequencing, sound and media, music networks and interactive radio. Year 3: Built around a major project; this could see students applying sound to a moving image on CD-Rom or DVD; developing an original piece of software or plug in or recording; editing and producing an audio CD.
