The course aims to equip students with knowledge and understanding of cellular and molecular aspects of immunology at an advanced level, as well as an appreciation of the application of immunology in health and disease; the main areas covered by the course are: refresher courses in basic and applied immunology; applied statistics and IT skills; hot topics in molecular and cellular immunology; immunology research tutorials (critical appraisal of current original literature); biotechnology and entrepreneurship; assays of immune function (practical course involving use of basic immunological techniques); practical skills for biomedical research (cell culture, basic and confocal microscopy), flow cytometry and cell sorting, transplantation technologies, proteomics).
