Students study the theory and practical techniques of molecular pathology and toxicology with emphasis on the understanding of molecular mechanisms in cancer; applicants take a 6 month laboratory project placement in a research laboratory in the university or industry; the programme covers pharmaceutical, biotechnology, health care and environmental control industry, as well as academic research.
Core modules: Toxicology; immunology and pathology; science skills (molecular cell biology, presentation skills, information technology, statistics for biological scientists, molecular methods and experimental design); practical modules: Ames test; cellular toxicology; gene cloning and analysis; gene expression; research project placement; advanced topic modules: joint topic; carcinogenesis and cancer biology; molecular pathology topics: infection and immunity; vascular biology; molecular toxicology topics: reproductive toxicology; molecular toxicology.
