The course interrogates the fabric of 20th and 21st-century culture; gives students the chance to develop their expertise in the analysis of the literature of the period while deepening their understanding of the key conceptual and theoretical dynamics that have shaped our world.
Students take 2 compulsory modules in modern and contemporary cultures (40 credits) designed to develop a critical understanding of modernity, modernism, postmodernity and contemporary culture; plus 4 optional modules (40 credits) which allows students to follow a general pathway or to specialise in: film studies, American literature, or postcolonialism and global culture; students additionally train in research skills and academic writing (40 credits) and carry out a dissertation (60 credits) to further knowledge in their specialist field.
