Year 1: Social policy; integrated approach to midwifery practice; introduction to professional practice studies; information resources and skills; communication and counselling skills in midwifery; an integrated approach to the antepartum and intrapartum periods; an introduction to professional and safety issues in midwifery; an introduction to psycho social influences on health behaviour. Year 2: Integrated approach to postpartum period; women's issues in midwifery; communicating health; the use of research and other evidence in midwifery practice; high risk during pregnancy, labour and the puerperium; ill health issues for women; the compromised neonate. Year 3: In-depth analysis of a midwifery-related topic; midwifery professional issues and practice development; reflection on holistic midwifery care; analysis of infant feeding method; midwifery care in context; management issues for the midwife; international perspectives for women and midwives. Registered midwife qualification leads to entry on to Part 10 of the UKCC Professional Register.
