Course develops critical, analytical and reflective skills and will hone communication skills; theoretical skills are supported by a range of clinical experiences focused on the childbearing woman and the baby; this makes up 60 per cent of study and based in a maternity unit working alongside a registered midwife.
Year 1: combination of theoretical skills and clinical experience. Year 2 and 3: students are given a small case-load to give the opportunity to provide continuity of care throughout the whole spectrum of childbirth; at the end of year 2 there is an elective/alternative placement available to experience midwifery in different settings within the UK or abroad.
