Every campus has a learning resource centre with libraries, computing equipment, language centre and audiovisual facilities. The campus support teams, each headed by a campus dean of students, provide advice and support on finance, welfare, individual academic problems and all the processes involved in a student's career from admissions to graduation and beyond.

The university has an overseas population of around 2,500 students. Sport and leisure facilities include one of the few real tennis courts in the UK, alongside health and fitness centres and sports arenas. The busy social calendar kicks off in the autumn with a large Freshers Ball and winds down with a 36-hour non-stop summer festival. The university awards scholarships of up to £1,000 for full-time students on the basis of academic achievement, sporting achievement or community/cultural activity. Applications are invited from those applying to the university or once studies have begun. Bursaries are also available to assist part-time students
