Students take 1 core course and choose 2 optional courses; for the MLitt students also produce a dissertation on a specialist topic agreed with their supervisor; the degree is designed to expose students to postgraduate life and prepare them for life as a PhD student; for those students who are not sure what topic to research, the structure of the degree has the flexibility to allow them the opportunity to explore some options before honing in on one in particular for the dissertation; for those who already know what topic they wish to pursue, the degree offers expert guidance for them in developing it further.
