This course, taught through distance learning, is designed to provide systematic training in the increasingly relevant subject of fungal infection, the diseases fungi cause and their diagnosis and treatment. The programme focuses on the practical elements of diagnosis, the identification of pathogenic fungi and the application of molecular techniques.
Core modules: introduction to the principles and practice of medical mycology; mycoses; therapy of fungal infections; molecular methods in medical mycology; practical sessions (three course modules); research methodology (MSc students only); portfolio of yeasts and moulds identification (postgraduate diploma students only); dissertation (MSc students only)..

Applicants must hold a minimum of a 2nd class Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or medicine from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. It is a prerequisite of the programme that all students have regular access to a personal computer and the Internet and have acquired basic skills in their use.
