Northampton College
The practical emphasis of media production is contextualised within a contemporary theoretical approach to media forms, audiences and industries; the degree content is designed to enable students to play a full role in the modern digital media world; the physical geography course explores past, present and future processes affecting the Earth and atmosphere; topics such as climate, landform development, hydrology and geology are covered in the detailed lecture programme.
Media production Stage 1: Provides students with a range of experiences across video, radio and photographic media alongside an understanding of internet technology; this development of broad knowledge base is complemented by researching, planning and media management skills; stage 1 also introduces some of the key theories and debates pertaining to contemporary media production. Stage 2: Students work on more advanced media production skills and, together with scriptwriting, they are prepared for the 3rd stage; a more critical approach to their work and that of others, including professionals, is encouraged; alongside this, students take a more focused look at media theory and research. Stage 3: In this final stage, students work independently on their own project, take part in a group live brief and complete a dissertation; thus their practical and theoretical skills are brought together to produce a substantial portfolio of professional standard work. Physical geography All years: Typical modules include: biogeography; climate and society; dry land environments; geomorphology; past environments; principles of physical geography; weather and climate.
