Course Description
The role of visual communication is prominent in the evolution and expression of culture and it is vital to develop different strategies to communicate in an increasingly visual and saturated environment. Critical and technical experimentation, cross-disciplinary practice and analysis are strategic components of this course. Strategies on offer to the contemporary practitioner range from print to online media, from exhibition to screen, to self and mass publishing models. Specialising or spanning across the languages of Narrative, Book Arts, Illustration, Audio & Typo/Graphic Design, Photography, Moving Image, Printmaking and Interactive media, this new course is uniquely poised to offer a wide variety of high-end digital and non-digital methods. The flexible programme offers a wide range of opportunities for individuals to develop both practical and theoretical skills in or between an art and applied design context. The course aims to address the demand for visual communicators with diacritic creativity, authorship and interpretative abilities. The School of Media Arts and Imaging has high-end printmaking, filming, animation and editing facilities, supported by highly experienced technical staff. The course is supported by links with related industries. The curriculum is designed to attract graduates from design and art backgrounds, as well as practising artists who wish to focus on developing their personal practice.
