The course is a 1 year course for students who already have a higher national diploma (HND), diploma of higher education or foundation degree in a related subject; students develop knowledge and skills in the field of mechatronics systems including traditional mechanical systems, manufacturing automation, medical equipment, transport control (automotive, aeroplanes), process and environmental control, robots, smart machines and artificial intelligence; the course integrates mechanical and electronic engineering, control systems, computers and information systems to aid the design of products, processes and systems; it combines the design of physical systems with the application of computer software; studies use an approach that combines case studies, practical/laboratory work and problem solving-based projects; students have access to mechatronic facilities, engineering laboratories, the innovation factory and a design studio with design, analysis and simulation software; the design studio is equipped with engineering design and analysis software; it brings together a broad range of design disciplines including designers, engineers, technologists and students in a pioneering new concept in design development and knowledge transfer between industry and academia; students develop skills in engineering management and also enhance research, data analysis and data evaluation skills.
