This programme provides students with a deeper insight into sensors and instrumentation, control and signal processing, and automation and robotics while maintaining plenty of options with which to build on more traditional mechanical engineering expertise.
Year 1: Electrical systems; engineering design; fluid mechanics; mathematics for engineering sciences; mechanics; mechanics of solids; modelling and computing; professional engineer properties of materials and thermodynamics. Year 2: Dynamics and control; electro-mechanical systems; electronics for mechanical systems; engineering design and structural analysis methods; fluid mechanics; linear engineering systems (vibration); management 1; materials; mathematics for mechanical engineers; mechanics of machines; solids and structures and thermodynamics. Year 3: Mandatory modules: automation and robotics; classical control design; engineering design; instrumentation; management 2 or new venture planning; and individual project; plus a choice from a wide range of optional modules. Year 4: Mandatory modules: advanced digital control; advanced electrical systems; advanced management; computer-aided analysis or advanced computational methods in engineering; sensors and signal processing for condition monitoring; and group design project; plus a choice from a wide range of optional modules.
