This programme provides a foundation in the theory and techniques of mathematical and numerical modelling for atmosphere and ocean systems; it offers practical experience in the application and analysis of computational simulation processes currently used in the environmental sciences and introduces students to a range of topics and technical skills, leading to a variety of potential applications; the overall aim of the programme is to give an appreciation of the link between theory and application in atmosphere and ocean modelling.
Modules include: Numerical solution of initial value problems; theory of differential equations; fluid dynamics of the atmosphere and oceans; atmospheric physics; numerical solution of boundary value problems; computing techniques and projects; numerical modelling of the atmosphere and oceans; communication and research skills; industrial modelling; applications of meteorology; advanced numerical solution of differential equations.
