Course Description
In this course year one and two taught by practising film and TV make up artists, the study is centred on the practical understanding of make up, hair and prosthetics design, development and application. The range of skills acquired in the first year includes an introduction to film, television and theatre make up, glamour and high fashion, historical studies and wig dressing, an introduction to prosthetics, hair styling and postiche, as well as the presentation of character through make up design. The second year allows students to extend their knowledge in all areas consolidating in particular film and television make up, from script to screen. In the third year the emphasis of the course changes to a more self directed form of study and exploration. Students have the opportunity to choose particular areas of specialism in the first term project. They also further develop their research skills working on independently on chosen research topics and ideas. The final project allows the students to negotiate their own brief. Students leave with a professional portfolio, encompassing the wide range of experience offered by the course. The performance project, held in a professional environment, and the Final Degree Show, offer the students the opportunity to display their work to potential employers.
