This course covers the following core components: Syntactic Structure and Semantic interpretation; Phonology and Morphology; Optional components; Students may choose from: General phonetics; language in a developing nation; Dictionary-making: issues in Lexicography; Translation Theory; Chinese Epigraphy and Calligraphy; Structure of Amharic; Directed Study of an African language. Or two from some of the following: Topics in Lexical Semantics; Language, Society and Communication; Psychology of Language; Morphology; The Syntactic Structure of Japanese 1 and 2; Topics in the structure of Chinese; Grammatical Typology of American Indian Languages; Advanced Syntax; Current issues in Phonology; Issues in Semantics; Historical Linguistics General Phonetics; Linguistic Typology; etc.
